Using Abstraction in Photography
I think I’m hooked on abstraction in photography. I’m constantly on the lookout for the next subject. in slip casting class this morning, I spotted my friend’s jacket on the back of her chair. I quickly asked her permission to take a photo or two, and that’s what you’re looking at here.
In my last post, Abstract Photography, I wrote that form, color, and curves are all part of abstract photography. I think these photos have all three. Thanks to my friend and classmate for letting me photograph her beautiful jacket. I wonder what I’ll photograph next?
Abstract Photography
I’ve always enjoyed abstract art, and lately I’ve been studying abstract photography on line. I wanted to try my hand at it, using the three essentials that are part of abstract art. They are form, color,and curves. I’ve included three of my photos, here.

It was fun looking for subjects to photograph. I have a lot to learn, but plan to keep studying this art form. Not sure what my style will be, but it’ll be interesting to find it.
Photography Field Trip to Dana Point Harbor
Last week my photography class took a field trip to Dana Point Harbor. The class was scheduled to meet at 12:00, but I arrived early so I could enjoy a little extra time. The instructor had suggested we wear jackets because it was forecasted to be in the 60s, but it turned out to be t-shirt weather, with a gentle breeze perfect for sailing.
Westwind Sailing has been part of the Harbor for many years and here you see a class out for a lesson. Their boats are easily spotted with their bright yellow sails.
Coincidentally, I’d been to Dana Point the night before, to meet friends for dinner and a walk around the harbor. I hadn’t been to Dana Point since the Christmas boat parade, and suddenly I was there two days in a row.
A few of my photography classmates looking for the perfect photo opportunity. Later, some of us enjoyed a cup of coffee with our instructor. It was a fun way to end a wonderful day.
