Sunflowers mean fall to me. On my morning walk I saw these sunflowers for sale and along with our slightly cooler weather, at last, it’s really beginning to feel like fall is on its way. It has been a very hot summer, and I think many of us in Southern California will welcome the cooler days and nights.

An Orange Hibiscus
This beautiful orange hibiscus grows in my next door neighbor’s back yard. It’s on the other side of our wall, so I get to enjoy it while I water my own plants. I had to hang over the wall to take this photo. Hope nobody saw me. It was pretty early this morning.
Yesterday I spent the day with my mom in Seal Beach. We had a delicious lunch of enchiladas, beans and rice. We both love Mexican food. I took the above photo while we walked on the Seal Beach pier. It was a wonderful day and as I look at my two photos, I know why I often feel like I live in a little bit of paradise.
A Pretty Nectarine
Some nectarines are almost too pretty to eat. I love nectarines and I’m always so happy when they start showing up in the grocery stores. I read a little of the history of nectarines, and learned that they were domesticated in China more than 4,000 years ago. So glad that they found their way here. They are a very good source of both vitamins A and C. If you would like to learn more about this delicious fruit, Read Here. I have waited long enough, and now I am going to enjoy eating a juicy nectarine.
Inside Gardening
Inside Gardening is what I had to do. Our weather in southern California has been unbelievably hot. 117 degrees here yesterday. My potted plants were drying out as quickly as I watered them. Today I brought my plants in one at a time and worked on them in the house. I flooded each plant with room temperature water and pruned each plant if needed. I am really missing my usual time in the garden, but it is just too hot to be outside for very long.
On one of my quick trips outdoors, I snapped this photo. The water in our fountain looked so refreshing I just had to take a photo. It is cooler out this evening and I think the heat spell might be coming to an end.
Purple Pansies
Purple pansies immediately drew my attention as we drove into the Olive Avenue RV Park. We are planning to stay there in a few weeks. We had studied their web site and it looked very nice, but it’s always good to see these places in person ahead of time, if you can. Yesterday we took a drive south, to Vista California, to have a look. Purple pansies decorated the garden surrounding the park’s office. We were very happy with what we saw and are now looking forward to spending part of our vacation there. My hubby Martin especially liked the idea of coffee and doughnuts on Saturday mornings. Sounds tempting to me, as well.
