Indian Mallow is a California native plant with silver-gray leaves and bright yellow-orange blossoms.
It is native to the Sonora Desert of California and is extremely drought tolerant. In an extreme drought, the plant drops its foliage, but once it gets a small amount of water, it refoliates.
It is a shrub that grows 4-5 feet tall and wide.
Indian Mallow is perfect growing next to south and west facing walls, because it tolerates reflected heat.

Not fussy about soil type, but, it does like good drainage.
Believe it or not, I did not plant this Indian Mallow myself. It suddenly appeared in the garden. I am thinking a bird might have dropped a seed, or the seed was blown to our yard during one of our Santa Ana Wind events. I am so glad that I did not pull it out, mistaking it for a weed .The first thing that I noticed were the brightly colored flowers and unusual leaves. I did a little research and learned its name and growing habits.
I am enjoying this California native and its bright yellow-orange flowers and am curious to watch this Indian Mallow grow in my yard.
