Zebra Plant is well named. I was immediately attracted to its very showy foliage. It is part of the Acanthaceae family and is usually grown indoors. I read that it is a temperamental plant, but I am willing to take on the challenge.

It is native to Brazil, and likes higher humidity levels. It also likes bright filtered light, but does not do well in direct sun light. The soil should be kept evenly moist. I plan to check the soil often to make sure it does not get too dry. It also does well in soil that is neutral to acidic. A multi-purpose potting soil  mixed with a little sand to insure good drainage works very well. A weak fertilizer can be given every 2-3 weeks during the growing season.

In late summer or early fall, the Zebra Plant in the right growing conditions, will produce a yellow bract.
Zebra Plants can reach a height of 12-18 inches and a width of 10-14 inches.

This is a close-up of the top of my plant. You can see new leaves growing. I think that is a great sign. I am looking forward to the challenge of keeping my newest house plant happy. I purchased this plant in August, and it is now November 14. My Zebra Plant is still doing well, and below I have added a photo of the flower that was produced in late September. I am hoping this plant will continue to do well.
