The Euphorbia ferox is new to my succulent collection. I was drawn to it because of the green and purple color.
It is very easy to care for, and below are some helpful hints. It is a spiny succulent from South Africa.
Full sun to bright light is ideal. It can be grown outdoors in full sun, but make sure it doesn’t get sun burned.
When grown indoors, a south or west facing window is preferable.
Spring and summer are its growing seasons.
You should water deeply, but infrequently. Make certain the soil is very dry between waterings.
Cactus/succulent mix is a great choice for soil. The Euphorbia ferox likes a fast draining soil. Make sure to also use a fast draining container. Clay pots work well because they allow the soil to dry.
Euphorbia ferox is not frost-tolerant, so never leave somewhere that goes below 50 degrees. I have mine indoors
Fertilize lightly during the growing season. (spring-summer). Using diluted cactus fertilizer. Do not fertilize in winter.
You might want to wear gloves when handling this plant. Although I never do and have not had problems. I think I will though, when it comes time to move my plant to a larger container. The thorns are very sharp and if pruned, the sap can be irritating. Below is a closer look at those spines.

I am looking forward to watching my Euphorbia grow and mature. I will be sure to post pictures in the future.
